At Cigna we are committed to protecting everyone.
The outbreak of COVID-19 has put the spotlight on the importance of human relationships. During our periods of social distancing we have all had time to reflect and think about the people important to us. We’ve had time to think about how much we miss friends and family, and reminded us of how much we all value relationships as a way of maintaining our health and happiness.
At Cigna we encourage all our teams to check-in, and contact their family and friends in order to make sure there are no problems, even when they are working from home. In a recent survey*, we found that Thai people increased their communications with people they are close to. It’s important to guard against loneliness during these times, and we encouraged our team to regularly check-in with colleagues, family and friends. It doesn’t take much to pick up the phone and say hello or just send a message. Keeping in touch with loved ones is one way to help reduce stress, but you can also exercise, eat well, try meditation, listen to relaxing music or using other sources to relieve stress.
During COVID-19 maintaining these personal relationships helped us minimize the time watching, reading or listening to news. As it was all about the spread of the virus, the news could cause us to feel anxious or distressed. It’s best to only seek information from trusted sources so that you can take practical steps to prepare your plans and protect yourself and loved ones.
As advised by WHO, protect yourself and be supportive to others during this time. Assisting others in their time of need can benefit both the person receiving support and the helper. For example, make a call to your family members, neighbors or people in your community who may need some extra assistance, especially if you live far away from your home base. Working together as one community can help to create solidarity in addressing COVID-19 together. More importantly, all organizations should ensure that staff are aware of where and how they can access mental health and psychosocial support services, and facilitate access to such services.
Taking control of your stress is easier when you have a PLAN. You can follow our four-step PLAN developed by Cigna team to help you manage stress better. To make a PLAN, just find a period of time to unwind, a location to de-stress, an activity to enjoy, and the name of someone to talk to.
